THE EL GATO CLASSIC
A SERIES OF SKATEBOARD CONTESTS AND EVENTS CREATED BY SKATEBOARD LEGEND AND 2-TIME WORLD CHAMPION SKATEBOARDER EDDIE "EL GATO" ELGUERA.
Eddie Elguera lives in Palm Desert. An early innovator of vertical skateboarding throughout the late 70's and 80's, Eddie is a two-time world skateboard champion and named Skateboarder of the year in 1979 & 1980. Inventing and perfecting several vert tricks throughout the years including the "Elguerial" and the "Frontside Rock-n-Roll", Eddie helped advance and inspire the next generation of skaters that became household names including Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, and Christian Hosoi.
Legends' events have been increasing in popularity as new skaters are learning about and paying respect to the "founding fathers" of the sport. Inspired to create a unique event in the Coachella Valley, that catered to a new demographic and unite skateboarders across all generations, the El Gato Skateboard Classic was born.
As Eddie has shared his vision for the event, excitement has spread with fans and industry professionals. Tony Hawk, clearly the largest name in skateboarding today immediately signed on and will be featured with other legendary skaters for this historic event.
MUSIC
URETHANE
Urethane is an American punk band hailing from San Diego County. Formed during the pandemic in the winter of 2021, the line-up consists of vocalist/guitarist Tim Fennelly (War Fever), guitarist Steve Caballero (The Faction/Odd Man Out), bassist Chad Ruiz (Skipjack) and drummer Dylan Wade (ex The Bombpops). Their musical roots dive deep into punk rock and melodic hardcore. Urethane’s music emphasizes catchy choruses and melodic hooks that range from mid-tempo anthemic ballads to aggressive fast bangers reminiscent of legends No Use for a Name, Bad Religion and NOFX. Lyrically, the songs are a roller coaster of themes that touch on personal struggles, failures and disappointments. They tackle the struggle with emotional and spiritual identities as well as addressing environmental and societal destruction. The bands debut album, produced and recorded by Cameron Webb at Maple Sound Studios, was released on Cyber-Tracks Records in 2021. The band continues to tour domestically and abroad, catch them in a town near you.
HARSHMELLOW
Harshmellow is Otis B know as “O” in the skateboarding world, long-standing musician and photographer with songwriting Collaborator Sarah Linton on Bass, rounded out by Dale Crover (Melvins, Nirvana and many more) on Drums, a 3 piece band that plays aggressive rock n roll, Barge!
Asked to describe the Powerflex sound, Salba relates that he loves all genres of great Americana music.
